Ellora Ateliê in Sao Paulo, Brasil, organizes an International Exchange Program for Paper Artists with Artist Books.
The program is integrating the PapelArte/ArtPaper Interchange Art Project and is partially
supported by IAPMA (International Association for Hand Paper Makers and Paper Artists).
During these Pandemic times, where all the world has stopped, and people have had the chance
to think about their lives and the planet, artists have been incredibly involved in their creative processes, searching for answers and finding new solutions to exhibit their artworks.
This project aims to create an opportunity for interested artists to exchange experiences through
Artist Books created by the artist and then exchanged with another to be completed. In this way, distances will be reduced, and their books will travel to where they are not allowed to go just now. It is also a way to get closer to artists that one may not know but who will receive very special material created by the other.
The concept is to exchange Artist Books with an artist from another country and continent.
Each book was made by two artists. And all the received books will participate in the final
exhibition in Brazil and form the International Artist Book Library.
Our intention is to show this collection in other locations in the coming years.

El Pabellón de las Bellas Artes exhibe "Postal Artist Books", curada por Ángela Barbour, Directora Ejecutiva del Ellora Atelie en Sao Paulo, Brasil. Una muestra virtual que reúne la exposición de 65 libros, realizados por 72 artistas, habitantes de 36 países diferentes, distribuidos en 5 continentes.
Barbour invito, durante el COVID-19, a creativos de todo el mundo, con ninguna relación entre ellos, a que se conectaran a través de la intimidad visual y de distintas maneras de pensar, para la realización de un libro entre dos personas. A cada uno se le asigno un socio formando parejas de artistas para la reciprocidad; una cooperación en la realización de la obra, que generara cierta vinculación como espacio; un lugar en la interacción del libro artístico donde se desarrollaran los trabajos. Así, con el único límite en la medida del libro cerrado de 15 x 15 cm, cada cual empezó a producir un libro de artista, para ser finalizado en otro lugar del planeta.
En "Postal Artist Books", a los libros de artistas en exhibición no son necesarios leerlos. De alguna u otra manera en ellos se manifiestan sensaciones que fueron asomando durante la pandemia, y huellas que inevitablemente dejaran. La confusión y el trastorno del comienzo en cuarentena, la impotencia y el sufrimiento del dolor, la amargura y la ira por una vacuna ausente, la emoción de la esperanza y la fe ... se pueden llegar a transmitir al espectador, o no. Libros realizados con la formulación de lo que se quiere comunicar, pero con el entusiasmo y la frescura de un viaje, y que tan pronto como salieran del correo empezarían su vida.
El acto creativo de artistas a través del collage, el dibujo, la acuarela, la pintura e instalaciones, sobre variadas texturas, proporcionan a su vez un paralelismo entre lo viejo y lo estropeado, con la energía de la vida, el amor y la confianza. Sobres y estampillas. Palabras conmovedoras. Un centímetro que intenta marcar la medida de la distancia en lo incalculable. Poesías venidas de lo profundo del alma sobre lo que les toco vivir. O, como podemos apreciar en uno de los libros, palabras impresas en papel, sobre determinados aspectos y pensamientos, luego cocidas con un punto escapulario exagerado a paginas de tela, que realzan en el observador su definición y concepto.
Los libros de artistas de la "Postal Artist Books", participaron de la exposición inaugural del proyecto en Brasil, en la Galeria Oswald de Andrade, en Sao Paulo (Brasil); recibieron invitaciones para exhibir en el Pabellón de las Bellas Artes, a mi cargo, en la Argentina; a exponer en Ecuador, Colombia, Finlandia, Suiza, Estonia, Italia, Chipre, Israel; y van a pasar a formar parte del patrimonio de la Biblioteca Internacional de Libros de Artista (International Artist Book Library). Quiero agradecer a Ángela Barbour por la valiosa curaduría de la muestra y por su trabajo realizado para que la exposición pudiera exhibirse de manera virtual, llegando de esa manera a todos los rincones de la tierra.

Postal Artist Books
Postal Artist Books es la exposición de la colección de libros de artista realizados por 72 artistas de 36 países inscritos en: Postal Artist Books Project, concebido y comisariado por Ângela Barbour, artista visual y curadora independiente, entre los años de 2020 y 2021, durante la Pandemia de Covid- 19.
Cuando el mundo entero se detuvo, las personas y especialmente los artistas tuvieron la oportunidad de repensar sus vidas, el planeta, y pudieron volverse e involucrarse de manera única en sus procesos creativos, buscando respuestas y encontrando soluciones inesperadas.
Este proyecto tuvo como objetivo crear una oportunidad para que artistas de todo el mundo intercambiasen experiencias a través del intercambio de sus Libros de Artista, en este período de difícil acceso.
Se lanzó una convocatoria internacional, con inscripción gratuita para todos los artistas interesados en participar en el proyecto de intercambio. Podrían participar artistas de cualquier país, en particular los artistas miembros de IAPMA que corresponden a 44 artistas en la exposición, algunos de los cuales se unieron a IAPMA durante el proyecto.
Cada artista recibió, por sorteo, un socio de un continente diferente al suyo. Así, los dúos iniciaron un trabajo conjunto, donde cada artista produjo un libro de artista para ser completado por el socio. Los libros creados por cada artista fueron enviados al artista socio que los completó en el otro lado del mundo y luego los envió a Brasil para organizar la muestra.
Se redujeron las distancias, los libros viajaron donde no podíamos ir por las circunstancias actuales, enfrentando todas las dificultades de cierres de fronteras, y de las oficinas de correos, y al final tenemos una hermosa colección de libros de artista, donde cada libro realizado por dos artistas de distintos continentes lleva consigo un mundo de experiencias y visiones de este momento único en el que vivimos.
Una colección preciosa que ahora forma parte de la Biblioteca Internacional de Libros de Artista (International Artist Book Library), que se presentó para todo el mundo en una increíble exposición en la Galería de la Oficina Cultural Oswald de Andrade en São Paulo, Brasil.
Ya tenemos invitaciones para presentar la muestra en muchos países. Empezamos ahora este viaje de la muestra al extranjero con la Muestra Virtual en el Pabellón de las Bellas Artes de UCA, invitados por su Directora Cecilia Cavanagh, y por indicación del Curador Chileno Ernesto Muñoz.
¡Esperamos que al público argentino le guste la exposición y que este proyecto llegue a mucha gente y pueda compartir las experiencias de los artistas durante este tiempo tan especial que vivimos!

La exposición concebida por Ângela Barbour, es organizada por Ellora Ateliê y auspiciada por IAPMA (International Association of Handpaper Makers and Paper Artists) y por Poiesis Gestão Cultural de las Oficinas Culturais de la Secretaria de Cultura e Economia Criativa del Estado de São Paulo.
La edición de la Muestra Virtual en Buenos Aires cuenta con la co-realización del Pabellón de las Bellas Artes, de la Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina, también con auspicio de la bodega Escorihuela Gascon y producción local de Ana Laura Cantera.

Q Galería tiene el gusto de presentar Postal Artist Books, una muestra que reúne libros realizados por 72 artistas de 36 países que forman parte del Postal Artist Books Project, concebido y curado por ngela Barbour (BR) desde el 2020 en el contexto de la pandemia de Covid 19. Los libros forman parte de la colección de la Biblioteca Internacional de Libros de Artista (International Artist Book Library), la cual se mostró por primera vez en la Galería de la Oficina Cultural Oswald de Andrade en São Paulo, Brasil, durante el 2020. Después de ser expuesta en Quito, la colección continuará su itinerancia por otros países del mundo.

Letters Around the World -Postal Artist Books Basle Paper Mühle - Basel Switzerkand
During the pandemic, when the whole world came to a standstill, people and especially artists had the challenge to rethink their lives. They were able to engage in their creative processes in extraordinary and unique ways, seeking answers and finding unexpected solutions to their forms of expression.
During this time, when everyone was isolated at home, the initiative was born to realise a project of exchange of artists; books between artists around the world, to connect people and give artists the opportunity to reflect on this moment.
An international call was launched. This was followed by submissions from 72 artists (44 IAPMA members) from 36 countries, each defined as a pair of artists by drawing lots from different continents. Each artist designed her own individual artist's book, if possible in digital communication with the sparring partner. The artist books found their way by post to their first destination, the respective second artist, in order to supplement the artist's book with further content.
After that, the journey continued for each artist book to Brazil for the first physical confrontation. On the first days, with the doors still closed, via Zoom, the exhibition at the Oswald de Andrade Gallery in Sao Paulo, spread across the globe, opening to the public in sequence.
Distances were abolished, the books travelled to where we could not travel under the present circumstances. Despite all the difficulties caused by the closure of borders and post offices, the parcels reached their destination.
In a complex present, a collection of artists books was created, where each book was developed by two artists from different continents. A world of experiences and visions of this unique period. Initiated and curated by the Brazilian artist Angela Barbour, the project now forms a valuable, international collection of the International Artist Book Library Collection, which, after Sao Paulo was shown at the Pabellon de las Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires (Argentina), at the Q-Gallery in Quito (Ecuador) and now, with the additional title: Letters Around the
World", at the Basler Papiermühle, Swiss Museum of Paper, Writing and Printing, Basel (Switzerland).
This first European presentation of the exhibition is coordinated and curated by Therese Weber, IAPMA President 1992-96, in collaboration with Angela Barbour and Martin Kluge, Basler Papiermühle and supported by IAPMA and the Basler Papiermühle.
We hope that this project will reach many people and that the experiences of artists from all over the world will be inspiring.

The paper mill in Basle (Basler Papiermühle) presents a traveling exhibition of 72 artists from 36 countries with leporellos and artist books created in 2020/2021 during the pandemic lockdown. Each work results from an exchange of experiences between two artists from countries around the globe. Each pair of artists entered into a creative dialogue with their artworks by mail. The works, with very different design concepts, techniques, and content, are now on display in Europe for the first time after being shown in São Paulo, Buenos Aires, and Quito.
The exhibition was initiated and curated by Ângela Barbour, Ellora Ateliê in São Paulo, Brazil. IAPMA Member Therese Weber coordinated the exhibition in Basel.
